Holy Spirit has really been talking to me about internal integrity. From the time we are young we are taught not to disappoint people, to put others first, and to live selflessly. But how do we truly fulfill the command to love our neighbor as ourselves if we aren’t taught to prioritize our ownselves? Jesus served others but he always took time away to refuel and to make sure HE was good too.
It shouldn’t be easier to renig on yourself than it is it change your mind concerning others. You know what I mean, you overextend and need to reschedule or cancel altogether but then you feel guilty because you’re so used to people pleasing that the thought of disappointing someone else brings you anxiety. Even though you NEED to change things for yourself.
What’s worse is we will renig on our commitments to God easier than other people. So how are we truly living to Love Him with all of our hearts, minds, and strength when we can’t keep his word or ours? 🥴
I know some people will say it’s selfish to put yourself first but they’re wrong. You can’t love someone as yourself if you don’t know how to love yourself go begin with. All that does it is eat away at all that you are meant to be until there’s nothing left but a shell.
Your brain and body keep score of all of the promises you break to yourself, so it’s no surprise that it doesn’t prepare itself when you set new goals. So let’s be more intentional about how we love ourselves, hold ourselves accountable to our commitments to God and ourselves, and then loving others will be able to be done out of overflow rather than insufficient funds.
